  • In 2023, it is expected that there should be great espresso no matter where you are. Fig. is a cafe opening in April of this year to make that a reality on the banks of the Missouri River at 345 Riverfront Drive. Located in the Kiewit Luminarium, a cutting edge science and discovery museum, the cafe will serve great espresso drinks to guests of the museum and people who came to look at the river.

    Another fact is that great espresso does not make itself. Fig. is in search of three of the best baristas in town (or baristas willing to relocate to this awesome city). Attitude is as important as your skill on the machine because we will train you. If you are friendly, hard working, professional and have the ability to stay focused and cool during rushes then you are invited to apply.

    Training will be thorough and cover how factors such as grind, dose, freshness, and time affect the quality of an espresso shot. We will extensively cover the technique for pulling shots, steaming milk, and maintaining equipment. Training will be paid and begin in March.

    Essential Functions:

    Develop thorough understanding of coffees, teas, and food served at Fig. in order to have knowledgeable conversations with customers

    Prepare espresso drinks for customers, meeting Fig. quality standards

    Maintain a clean and organized environment for customers and coworkers in all areas of the cafe

    Regularly taste espresso and adjust to meet quality standards

    Deliver exceptional customer service, proactively engage with customers to understand and meet their needs

    Accurately process transactions on the POS system

    Qualifications:

    Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee as well as a desire to learn and improve your coffee skills

    Ability to deliver exceptional hospitality in personal and professional manner

    Strong attention to detail and a healthy respect for cleanliness and sanitation

    Flexibility and availability in schedule is required

    Ability to multitask with ease, work fast and efficiently, and remain calm under pressure

    Good communication skills with customers and coworkers

    Extreme reliability and strong sense of responsibility is required

    Must be available weekends

    Compensation and Perks:

    $10 base wage + tips (Hourly will not fall lower than $18)

    Fig. will not be just another place to eat. It is an experience. With wall to wall windows and views of the museum and Missouri River, a feeling of possibility is palpable.

    Great customer service is our highest priority. We are in search of friendly, hard working, hospitality industry professionals to serve guests from the counter and manage the dining experience.

    Hiring will take place in February with training beginning in the middle of March.

  • Fig. is a daytime cafe that will open in April 2023 at the Kiewit Luminarium, a new, next-generation science center that will joyfully engage people of all ages and identities to explore astonishing phenomena and consider something new. Anticipated as a regional draw and a national model, Kiewit Luminarium’s interactive exhibits and programs will inspire lifelong interest and careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

    In its unique location, Fig. has an opportunity to engage hundreds of thousands of people a year through the culinary experience that is crafted for museum goers as well as riverfront pedestrians and locals seeking high quality ingredients of a versatile menu, in a beautiful space. The Luminarium’s purpose-built, 82,000 sf facility is rising on the Omaha RiverFront and will serve as a backdrop to over 100 open-ended exhibit experiences. The cafe will seat 50 inside and 40 outside on the patio and boardwalk.

    Our high volume kitchen prides itself on clean, efficient, and professional operation. Our menu is scratch-made classics for breakfast and lunch using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. We’re looking for line and prep cooks to help create a unique food experience.

    Duties:

    Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.

    Cook the exact number of items ordered by each customer, working on several different orders simultaneously.

    Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.

    Monitor product freshness and rotate out old product based on a schedule created by the restaurant

    Use safe food handling procedures and maintain superior personal hygiene practice at all times.

    Wash and sanitize work areas and equipment, wash dishes, take out trash

    Measure seasonings, condiments, and ingredients for use in cooking

    Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking

    Operate cooking equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and gas range.

    Expedite prepared orders fast and efficiently while ensuring everything meets high quality standards

    Clean, stock, and restock workstations.

    Qualifications:

    Experience in professional kitchens required

    Comfortable working on the line with others

    Ready for both prep & line work

    Strong attention to detail

    Work clean, fast, and efficient

    Strong work ethic and teamplayer

    Able to stand through duration of 8-hr shift

    Compensation is commensurate with experience, but everyone in the kitchen will make $19-$24/hour. We treat our team like a family, everyone gets a complimentary shift meal and coffee. Our restaurant and kitchen is a very friendly environment where people are treated with respect. We have a zero tolerance policy for substance abuse and toxic attitudes.
